NFL: The Green Bay Packers and David Bakhtiari have long been rumored to be nearing the end of the road together. Many believe this could even be Bakhtiari’s last season in Green Bay. It is no secret that, when healthy, Bakhtiari is still one of the top left tackles in the NFL and would garner a lot of interest throughout the league. However, his status of even being on the trade block got a major update.
David Bakhtiari Trade “Not Happening” Per ESPN’s Get Up
ESPN’s Mike Greenberg this Thursday says he thinks another trade between the New York Jets and Green Bay Packers should happen. Appearing on Get Up this morning, Greenberg urged the Jets to make a trade for one of Aaron Rodgers‘ former teammates, Packers’ three-time Pro Bowl tackle David Bakhtiari.
“Dianna’s not reporting it’s happening, I’m reporting they should do it,” Greenberg started. “The Jets should go out and make a trade for offensive line help immediately, and David Bakhtiari would be the perfect place to start.”
“We need [Rodgers] standing as tall when the season ends. Jets – go do it,” Greenberg said.
“Pass protection was an issue all day,” Jets insider Rich Cimini reported yesterday.
“Rodgers was ‘sacked’ at least 2 times and pressured on a few other dropbacks. OLB Brian Burns was a problem, especially for LT Max Mitchell. Two-minute drive sputtered b/o poor pass pro…”
What Does This Mean For The Green Bay Packers? (NFL)
If the Packers were to trade Bakhtiari, that would mean left tackle would be played by either Yosh Nijman or Zach Tom. While either on of those players would be “fine” at left tackle, they are no David Bakhtiari. Bakhtiari has the highest PFF grade of the three and quite frankly, it’s not even close.
Just like the Jets have a desire to keep Aaron Rodgers upright, if the Packers want success in 2023, they’ll need the same with Jordan Love. It was always unlikely that the Packers and Jets would conduct another massive trade during the same off-season, but this should put the nail in the coffin for good.
