The Green Bay Packers wide receiver core has grown a long way from the 2023 season. It took them until Thanksgiving to grow up and will see what they can do for an encore in 2024. None of the wide receivers on the roster a season ago reached 1,000 yards, but one or two of the wide receivers on the roster have a chance to accomplish that goal in 2024.
Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed, and Dontayvion Wicks will no doubt be on the Packers roster next season at the wide receiver position. The question will be, who will be the final two wide receivers on Green Bay’s roster for the 2024 season? Green Bay will be very deep at the position this season and wide receivers have stepped up when others went out with injury last season.
It’s another story who will be the top target for quarterback Jordan Love altogether, but that’s another story for another day. Freddie Boston of lombardiavenue.com thinks that the other two wide receivers on the roster for the 2024 season will be Bo Melton and Malik Heath.
Heath a season ago was an undrafted free agent out of Ole Miss who made the Green Bay Packers roster. As for Bo Melton, he was a seventh-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft by the Seattle Seahawks out of Rutgers. He was cut by the Seahawks during the 2023 final roster cuts and the Green Bay Packers signed him to the practice squad before the season began.
Melton was then signed to the active roster before the Week 17 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings. Bo Melton had over 100 yards receiving against the Vikings and he was the first wide receiver to have 100 yards receiving in a game for the Green Bay Packers. Jayden Reed followed that up with over 100 yards receiving in Week 18 against the Chicago Bears.
Green Bay Packers Wide Receiver Depth Is Very Good
If Christian Watson can stay on the field this season for the Packers, it will be scary. He could be the most talented out of him, Reed, Wicks, and Doubs. There will be times this season when four-wide sets will occur. Good luck to the defense trying to prepare for it.
The reasoning Freddie Boston of Lombardiavenue.com gave about this receiving core for the 2024 season is as follows:
“Green Bay is confident in its receiving corps and didn’t feel the need to add another pass-catcher via the draft. And for good reason. Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks showed star potential as rookies. Romeo Doubs is an ascending player and showed his upside in a dominant playoff performance against the Dallas Cowboys. We’ve all seen how unstoppable Christian Watson can be when healthy. If he can overcome his hamstring injuries this season, look out.”
It is good news that the Packers did not take a wide receiver in the 2024 NFL Draft. The Green Bay Packers will have wide receivers step up this season if injuries do occur, but let’s hope it doesn’t happen.
