A former Green Bay Packers wide receiver recently cut by the Houston Texans found work almost immediately in the AFC South. According to Adam Schefter with ESPN, the Colts have signed Amari Rodgers after they waived Johnny King.

Rodgers’ signing was quick. He passed waivers without being picked up, and there were no reports of the Colts’ interest in signing Rodgers before Schefter’s report Wednesday that he had signed with the team.
Rodgers’ decision to leave the Texans was mutual. The Texans, who have a young pass-catching group working with rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud, weren’t going to be able to offer Rodgers enough paying time on their roster.

Rodgers will now have the opportunity to work with another top rookie quarterback prospect in Indianapolis. The Colts took quarterback Anthony Richardson with the number four overall pick in the 2023 draft. The Colts’ wide receiver roster should offer less competition for Rodgers this summer.
The Indianapolis Colts and Houston Texans are similar
The competition at wide receiver is really the only major difference between the two AFC South teams. The Texans and Colts have first-year head coaches, with rookie quarterbacks likely to start in Week 1.
The Colts seem to be in competition with the New York Jets to see who can assemble a roster with more former Packers players. The Colts have four other former Green Bay players on their roster besides Rodgers: Malik Turner, Henry Black, Tony Brown, and Juwann Winfree.
