The New York Jets will visit with a quarterback this weekend
The New York Jets will shine the spotlight on a veteran quarterback this weekend as Aaron Rodgers heads into the darkness. Rodgers plans to start his “darkness retreat” at the end of this week before he plots what he wants for the 2023 season.
The Jets have inquired about landing Rodgers via trade this offseason. However, the Jets are persistent about getting a veteran quarterback this offseason–even if they can’t land the four-time MVP. According to Mike Garafolo with the NFL Network, the Jets will visit with free agent quarterback Derek Carr this weekend.
The #Jets are bringing in free agent QB Derek Carr for a visit this weekend, sources say. It’ll be the second meeting with a team for Carr, who visited the #Saints prior to his release by the #Raiders.

Carr visited with the New Orleans Saints recently as the Las Vegas Raiders were trying to find a trade partner. Carr, who had a no-trade clause, denied the Raiders and Saints’ trade request, and the Raiders subsequently released him. He thinks he can find a better deal in free agency. That could be with the Jets.
The New York Jets would save cash and draft capital by signing a free agent like Carr over trading for Rodgers. However, Carr’s skill set is not as impressive as Rodgers’. The Jets seem to want to get the best quarterback they can in 2023–that would be Rodgers.
The Packers can keep Rodgers
The Packers still have Rodgers under contract and are expected to try and bring him back next season. The Packers recently restructured running back Aaron Jones’ contract to free up cap space for next season. Presumably, that would help the Packers sign free agents that would entice Rodgers to stay in Green Bay. With that being the case, the Jets are hedging their bets with other options.
