Aaron Rodgers is taking some time for himself this off-season. At the center of it all, he wants to find clarity on his future in the NFL and continue his mediation practices. Today Aaron Rodgers appeared on the Pat McAfee Show for his regularly scheduled interview on Tuesdays. He shed some light on what the immediate future holds for him during his off-season journey.
Aaron Rodgers Gives Timeline For Darkness Retreat
Aaron Rodgers hasn’t entered his darkness retreat just yet.
“I’m not in my darkness retreat yet,” he said during an appearance on Tuesday’s episode of The Pat McAfee Show. “This thing has been planned for about four months, and it was always the same dates. Always the end of this week.”
His comments come after NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero previously reported he would start a four-day stay in isolation on Monday morning (February 14th, 2023). Rapoport and Pelissero noted the Green Bay Packers are honoring the quarterback’s need to take some time to decide on his future while the relationship between the two sides “remains positive” with the team open to a return should he choose that path. Aaron Rodgers also said Tuesday the retreat is about more than deciding his football future and will be done to find “a greater peace in my life,” like past meditation and yoga retreats.
While the Green Bay Packers (and possibly Aaron Rodgers himself) are unsure about what his future may currently hold. His uncertainty, though, has not stopped trade rumors from swirling. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that the New York Jets have officially reached out to the Green Bay Packers to inquire about possibly trading for the four-time MVP.
Aaron Rodgers has mentioned that his decision will come sometime after the Super Bowl. Rodgers signed his massive three-year $150 million extension on March 8th, 2022. I would anticipate his decision coming around that time once again this year. With over a month before the 2023 NFL Draft, a decision coming around that time would give the Packers enough time to formulate a plan moving forward.
