Wisconsin Football has lost a commitment in their 2024 class today after an in-state tight end announced he would back away from the Badgers.
Robert Booker, a 2024 three-star tight end, announced via Twitter that he intends on re-opening his recruitment. Booker had been a Badgers commitment for quite some time and now leaves after reconsidering his options. The talented tight end was not clear as to why he would back away but could potentially return in the future.
Wisconsin Football Staff Shockingly Loses In-State Commitment
As Robert Booker announced his de-commitment on Twitter, Badgers fans began to express their extreme levels of concern. Whether or not Luke Fickell can recruit players from Wisconsin has been a major question after missing multiple top recruits from the state. Now, with the 2024 class down to two in-state players for the Badgers, the concern level is raised once again despite their success elsewhere.
The fact that Booker is backing away from the program certainly does not bode well for Fickell, but the staff may not have known either. The announcement from Booker comes out of nowhere for both the Badgers staff and the Badgers fans. The tight end had just recently finished an official visit in Madison and met with the Wisconsin Football staff. Booker also holds offers from Iowa, Michigan State, Kansas, and Minnesota, among others, but none appear to have been pushing hard for the recruit.
The talented tight end has only made one official visit thus far, which was with the Badgers, according to Rivals. Booker had spent all of the official visit season as a hard commitment and now will presumably use this time to visit more schools. Booker also stated in his announcement that he had no issues with the Wisconsin Football staff, nor did they influence his decision. The Wisconsin Football staff will likely continue to stay in contact with Booker as he re-opens his recruiting.
What Is Next for the Wisconsin Badgers Football Staff?
While the announcement from the tight end is certainly not a good thing for the Badgers, it seems as though Booker made up his mind without involving the staff. The Wisconsin Badgers football recruiting class for 2024 was already light on offense, and losing Booker will make the staff more eager to land another commitment.
Best of luck to Robert Booker in the future as he looks to find his perfect fit athletically and academically.
