NBA rumors: The Phoenix Suns have been making moves. On Sunday, they signed free agent big man Bol Bol to a one-year deal, while also deciding to trade away Cam Payne to the San Antonio Spurs. Losing Payne means that they’re one point guard shy in their rotation, but apparently, Phoenix has had a plan all along — one that is centered around new superstar acquisition Bradley Beal.
NBA Rumors: Bradley Beal Is Projected Starting Point Guard For Phoenix Suns
According to NBA guru Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium, the Suns intend to use Beal as their starting point guard for the upcoming season. At 6-foot-4, Beal has played his entire career as a shooting guard, which means that he will be entering uncharted water with his new team. However, the three-time All-Star is an elite ballhandler and he should have no problem with this transition.
This will allow Phoenix to keep Devin Booker at the two-guard, which will now give the Suns one of the most explosive backcourts in the NBA. Let’s also not forget about Kevin Durant, who will likely resume his role as Phoenix’s starting power forward. Josh Okogie should get the nod to start at the three, while Deandre Ayton will remain as the starting center. You would be hard-pressed to find a more formidable starting five in the NBA than this.
Shams also reports that Phoenix will likely use Jordan Goodwin as Beal’s primary backup at point guard. Saben Lee, who is on a two-way deal, is also still in the mix.
NBA Rumors: Bucks Will Need To Worry About Suns
If this all clicks for the Phoenix Suns, then the rest of the NBA better be worried. The Milwaukee Bucks, in particular, should also be concerned.
Giannis Antetokounmpo and Co. are looking to bounce back from a disappointing 2022-23 campaign and they are obviously looking to recapture that title. If they are able to get out of the East, which is a gargantuan task in itself, then it wouldn’t be surprising if they end up facing the Phoenix Suns for the championship in what will be a rematch of the 2021 NBA Finals.
