NBA rumors: The Golden State Warriors fell short in their title defense last season. Their campaign was characterized by struggles throughout the year, which ultimately, led to a second-round exit at the hands of LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers.
The Dubs made some big moves this summer with the objective of adding another ring to the four championships they’ve bagged in the last eight years. In an eye-popping trade proposal, the Warriors get their hands on a highly-touted Eastern Conference center that could propel them as the title favorites for 2023-24.
NBA Rumors: Warriors Go All-In on Myles Turner in Blockbuster Trade
Lee Tran of Fadeaway World has floated another sensational trade scenario for the Warriors. In it, Golden State acquire two-time block champion Myles Turner from the Indiana Pacers in exchange for Gary Payton II, Kevon Looney, Jonathan Kuminga, and a 2028 first-round pick. It’s a major haul to give up, no doubt, but considering what Turner will bring to the table, this could be a worthwhile risk for the Dubs:
“On the offensive side of the ball, Myles Turner can be an effective pick-and-roll and pick-and-pop player. He will also get a lot of open 3PT shots from Stephen Curry’s gravity which means his efficiency could increase even further. On the defensive end, the Golden State Warriors would have one of the best defensive frontcourts in the league if they paired Turner with Draymond Green. This frontcourt would be elite at rim protection and could help cover for Klay Thompson’s declining perimeter defense. Overall, Myles Turner is the perfect player to help the Golden State Warriors win another championship,” Tran wrote.
There’s no denying that Stephen Curry’s championship window is closing. The GOAT shooter is now 35 years old, while both Klay Thompson and Draymond Green are on the decline as well. Golden State needs to surround its core with win-now pieces in order to capitalize on this window. Their decision to give up Jordan Poole in exchange for Chris Paul is a clear testament to this fact, and trading away a handful of integral pieces in order to bring perpetual Defensive Player of the Year candidate Myles Turner to the Bay Area falls within the same risk-it-all-now mindset.
