NBA news: There were more than a few surprises in the NBA during the offseason. One of the biggest ones was the Golden State Warriors trading for Chris Paul. This took more than a few folks by surprise considering how CP3 was once a sworn enemy by the Dubs. Now, he’s set to be an integral part of Golden State’s championship quest this season.
NBA News: Steve Kerr Speaks on Past Beef With Chris Paul
Head coach Steve Kerr has now shed some light on how Paul’s arrival impacts their view on the point god. Obviously, they no longer consider him to be the enemy. According to Coach Kerr, this is all in the past now. The four-time NBA champion shot-caller even dragged Hall of Famer Reggie Miller into the conversation as he explained the change in dynamics between CP3 and the Dubs:
“I used to hate Reggie [Miller],” Kerr said (h/t ClutchPoints on Twitter). “… I feel like that’s kind of how it’s gonna be with Chris [Paul]. [Warriors] hated him because we were competing, and he was so good. And now that’s our guy, and we love him.”
That’s one way of looking at it. Chris Paul himself once considered Stephen Curry and the Warriors as his nemesis. This is all water under the bridge now as CP3 looks to finally win his first-ever championship with a team that he too used to hate.
NBA News: Steve Kerr Defended Giannis Antetokounmpo’s Failure Claim
In spite of their differences, Steve Kerr always held Chris Paul in high regard. This is also how the Warriors coach sees Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo. As a matter of fact, Kerr once stood up for the Bucks talisman when he was heavily criticized for his strong take on failing in the NBA.
Giannis refused to accept the idea that the Bucks failed this past season after getting eliminated by the Miami Heat in the first round. This garnered all sorts of reactions from in and around the league. For his part, however, Steve Kerr expressed his utmost support for Antetokounmpo:
“My reaction was just how lucky we are to have Giannis in the league and being one of the marquee stars in the league, not only for his talent, but his humanity and his perspective,” Kerr said, via Colin Ward-Hellinger of CBS. “He’s so right. Are there really 29 failures every year in the league? One team — It just can’t be a zero sum game. The other thing is like these guys — I watch our guys every day and I know this goes on around the league but — these guys work so hard and they put so much into it.
“And so, when you hear terms like embarrassment or shame, like, why should anybody on Milwaukee be embarrassed or ashamed that they lost a playoff series? They shouldn’t. Giannis is right. Nobody should be embarrassed.”
As they always say, great minds tend to think alike.
