NBA rumors: The buzz may have died down on NBA free agency, but you can be sure that there’s still going to be one or two massive trades in the league coming this summer — or at least this is what we are hoping for. The Milwaukee Bucks could see themselves taking part in the trade market as they are now being linked to Chicago Bulls point guard Alex Caruso in a very intriguing proposal.
NBA Rumors: Bucks Acquire Alex Caruso From Bulls in Trade Proposal
James Piercey of the NBA Analysis Network has brought forward a trade scenario wherein the Bucks land All-Defensive guard Alex Caruso in a bold proposal. In exchange for Caruso, the Bucks give up Pat Connaughton and a 2029 first-round pick.
That’s quite a haul to give up for Milwaukee considering how Connaughton has played a key role for the squad over the past five seasons. In 2022-23, the 6-foot-5 guard/forward averaged 7.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in 23.7 minutes off the bench. He also knocked down 1.8 triples per game, making him an excellent floor-spacer for the Bucks whenever he’s on the court. Moreover, giving up a future first-round pick is also a massive ask for Milwaukee, considering how they already don’t have a wide array of future assets in their possession.
Then again, Alex Caruso is one of the best defenders in the NBA, and he will further elevate an already formidable Bucks defense to yet another level. He does have deficiencies on the offensive end, and pairing him with Jrue Holiday may seem a bit redundant. Then again, it does seem that Caruso’s strengths will potentially outweigh his shortcomings for Milwaukee.
NBA Rumors: Bucks Could Use Another Point Guard
One major issue Caruso will resolve for the Bucks is their current dilemma with their backcourt rotation. Specifically, if coach Adrian Griffin decides to bring Caruso off the bench, then he could serve as Jrue Holiday’s primary backup.
At the moment, this role belongs to incoming second-year guard AJ Green, whose natural position is shooting guard. Caruso would then be an excellent option to bring off the bench behind Holiday. I can also see a scenario where Caruso ends up closing out games alongside Jrue, Khris Middleton, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Brook Lopez. Talk about a defensive lineup, right?
