Renowned NBA analyst Skip Bayless is the latest to chime in on Giannis Antetokounmpo’s recent comments about potentially leaving the Milwaukee Bucks. According to the former back-to-back NBA MVP, he doesn’t see himself staying in the same place for 20 years if the team’s championship mindset does not align with his.
Well, Skip Bayless has now sent a bit of a warning to Giannis after his eye-opening statement.
Skip Bayless Warns Giannis Antetokounmpo Amid Recent Comments
According to reports, the Los Angeles Lakers and the New York Knicks are two teams that “interest” Giannis if he were to leave Milwaukee. These also happen to be two of the biggest market teams in the NBA, which is exactly why Bayless believes that Antetokounmpo should be wary of the implications of his supposed desire to move to either Hollywood or The Big Apple:
“He has been able to play in virtual shadows in Milwaukee, small media,” Bayless said (h/t Evan Bell sportskeeda) “… But Giannis has demonstrated sometimes a little thin-skinned with the media. He can get a little prickly, a little salty real quick with the media.
“Better be careful what you wish for because you come here, as you know about New York and LA markets. All of a sudden, you can’t get away with that on a nightly basis here like you can in Milwaukee where they’re just down on their knees saying, ‘Please don’t leave.'”
Does Skip Bayless have a point here? After all, this broadcasting veteran does know a thing or two about big-market media.
Earlier this summer, Giannis was embroiled in a bit of controversy when he snapped at a reporter who asked him about the Bucks’ failure from the 2022-23 season. Antetokounmpo did not appreciate the way the question was phrased and he clapped back with a lengthy and passionate rant about how he feels there is no failure in the NBA.
This is perhaps Giannis’ “thin-skinned” persona Skip Bayless is talking about. According to the 71-year-old, this just won’t fly in LA or New York.
