After taking the last two games of a four-game series against the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Milwaukee Brewers have shifted their attention to one of the top teams in the AL East, the New York Yankees. This first game of a three-game set against the Yankees was certainly a confidence booster for the Brewers as they took this game into the 11th inning and walked it off with a 7-6 comeback win.
At 17-8, Milwaukee sits a half-game above the Chicago Cubs for first place in the NL Central. The loss for New York puts them at 17-10. They’re tied with the Baltimore Orioles who are 16-9 for first place in the AL East. Both the Brewers and the Yankees are determined to win the next two games and stay on top of their respective division. Especially the Brewers, who just lost Wade Miley to Tommy John Surgery, as they want to prove they have what it takes to clinch the division for the second straight season.
Milwaukee Brewers Survive in 7-6 Extra Inning Win Over the Yankees

Just two batters into the game, Yankees right fielder Juan Soto knocked a solo shot into left field to give New York an early lead. An inning later for the Yankees, left fielder Alex Verdugo ripped a solo home run to right field. Milwaukee would quickly make this a tied game once again when third baseman Joe Ortiz cracked a two-run home run to left field. During the bottom of the third, Brewers center fielder Blake Perkins gave his team a 4-2 lead after cracking a two-run homer to right-center field.
Tie Game Heading Into Extra Innings

With a 2-2 count and two outs, Yankees center fielder Trent Grisham hit his first home run of the season, a three-run shot to right field to give New York a 5-4 lead. During the bottom of the sixth, Joe Ortiz hit a sacrifice fly, allowing Gary Sanchez to score home, making this a tied game once again. In the latter half of this ball game, both teams could not score a run, pushing this game to extra innings. Milwaukee’s catcher William Contreras made a big play in the bottom of the ninth, by throwing out Alex Verdugo, who was trying to steal second base.

Giancarlo Stanton gave the Yankees a 6-5 lead in the top of the tenth when he whammed an RBI double to left-center field. With a runner at third base during the bottom of the tenth, Brewers shortstop Willy Adames tied this game up for a third time when he lined an RBI single to center field. Milwaukee reliever Jared Koenig snagged a pitch coming his way hit by Alex Verdugo in the top of the 11th inning. Koenig quickly threw the ball to home, where William Contreras tagged out Jahmai Jones.
With one out and a runner at third base on an 0-1 count, Joey Ortiz hit the Brewer’s walk-off RBI single into left field to give Milwaukee a wild 7-6 win. Ortiz was undoubtedly the Player of the Game in this win, going two for four with four RBIs in this big-time victory.
