MLB Trade Rumors: A year ago the San Diego Padres and Milwaukee Brewers agreed to a block buster deal that sent three time NL Reliever of the Year Josh Hader to the west coast. In return the Brew Crew received four players including an established rental reliever, a fringe MLB player, and two top prospects.
Earlier in July Mark Feinsand wrote about the possibility of Josh Hader being dealt for a second consecutive season. Now a report from Bop Nightengale has surfaced confirming that it is likely that the Padres will shop him around this year.
San Diego Padres closer Josh Hader will likely be on the move for a second consecutive season (MLB Trade Rumors).
Unlike when the Milwaukee Brewers traded Josh Hader at the 2022 deadline, the San Diego Padres are offering him up with just a few months of control remaining. After this season he will be a free agent and will likely sign a massive contract.
Despite being the best reliever available at this year’s trade deadline, the cost to acquire Josh Hader might still be reasonable given his contract status. Earlier this year the Kansas City Royals received a fringe MLB player and a teenage prospect in exchange for Aroldis Chapman. Josh Hader will command more, but probably not by much.
It’ll be interesting to see if the Padres trade Josh Hader prior to the August 1 trade deadline or elect to hold on to him.
