The Milwaukee Brewers recently added Carlos Santana via a trade with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Between being a switch hitter, Rowdy Tellez struggling and also on the injured list, he should play near everyday the remainder of the season. Odds are he will play the field for this year he is rated as one of the best defensive first basemen. This leaves the door open for the Brew Crew to add another player and utilize them at the designated hitter spot.
According to MLB Insider Bruce Levine the Brewers have expressed interest in Chicago White Sox DH Eloy Jimenez.
Milwaukee Brewers Rumors: Eloy Jimenez of the Chicago White Sox linked to Brew Crew.
Through 70 games this year right-handed hitter Eloy Jimenez has a .285/.328/.478 slash line with a 119 OPS+. He has belted 13 home runs and collected 46 runs batted in. The 26 year old has 30 home run potential when healthy, has a slightly above average strikeout rate of 24%, and a below average walk rate.
One thing to consider with Jimenez is that he has a few years remaining on a six year, $43 MM extension that bought out his arbitration years. Next year he will make $13 MM and then he has a $16.5 MM club option for 2025 and $18.5 MM for 2026.
If Milwaukee is interested in trading for Eloy Jimenez it will cost them some serious prospect capital. They likely would have to be willing to part ways with at least one top 100 prospect plus a few other players. Matt Arnold has said that he wants to ‘add responsibly’ at the trade deadline, so acquiring Eloy Jimenez seems more like a long shot.
