MLB Rumors: Winter Meetings are nearly upon us and already this off-season we have seen a lot of activity revolving around National League Central teams. The Milwaukee Brewers are reportedly signing Jackson Chourio to a historic contract, the St. Louis Cardinals have signed three starting pitchers, the Cincinnati Reds have signed two pitchers, and the Chicago Cubs signed Craig Counsell to a record setting deal.
Despite all of this activity there has been continued chatter revolving around all four of these National League Central teams. There are a lot of rumors and reports out there so here we will highlight three big ones to know prior to Winter Meetings starting.
Three reports on National League Central teams (Milwaukee Brewers, St. Louis Cardinals, Cincinnati Reds, Chicago Cubs) to know prior to winter meetings (MLB Rumors).
- The Chicago Cubs are listed as one of four teams remaining who have a chance at signing Shohei Ohtani.
According to Jeff Passan the Los Angels Dodgers, Toronto Blue Jays, Los Angeles Angels, and Chicago Cubs are still in the running for Shohei Ohtani. He also indicated that the New York Mets, Texas Rangers, and Boston Red Sox have turned their attention elsewhere.
- Corbin Burnes has numerous conflicting reports regarding the Milwaukee Brewers desire to trade him.
Last month there were several reports initially indicating that Corbin Burnes was going to be traded this winter. The odds of a trade occurring then shifted in the other direction due to reports of Milwaukee wanting to compete in 2024, but now the likelihood appears to be trending back towards a deal occurring again. This may be both sides leaking information at a ploy for leverage in negotiations.
- Shane Bieber and Tyler Glasnow are trade candidates for the St. Louis Cardinals and Cincinnati Reds.
Despite already adding pitchers both the Cardinals and Reds have been linked to trade interest in Shane Bieber and Tyler Glasnow. Shane Bieber is a trade and sign candidate whereas Tyler Glasnow isn’t as he has a $25 million contract for 2024. Both of these pitchers could be on the move this winter and he could be coming to the National League Central division.
