MLB Rumors: San Diego Padres superstar Juan Soto does not hit free agency until 2025, but Baseball Columnist Jon Heyman is speculating that there is a front-runner to land him. His speculations have him returning to the National League East, in which he previously was with the Washington Nationals.

Philadelphia Phillies emerging as a front-runner to land Juan Soto in free agency (MLB Rumors).
Jon Heyman points out in his article that envisioning Juan Soto in Philadelphia makes sense. He talks about his ties with current Phillies hitting coach Kevin Long and how baseball president Dave Dombrowski tends to collect star players.
Soto has close ties from Nationals days with hitting coach Kevin Long. And with Bryce Harper, Trea Turner and Kyle Schwarber also there, the Phillies already have a distinct Nats flavor.
Unlike some others, the Phillies are batting high on big-time free agents (Harper and Zack Wheeler are big successes, Nick Castellanos and Schwarber are mostly successes, and it’s early in Turner’s tenure). Plus, baseball president Dave Dombrowskihas been a collector of stars.
As pointed out, should Juan Soto go to the Philadelphia Phillies he would join a handful of stars already there. Among them Trea Turner is just getting starting in his massive contract, so adding another superstar could be a great long term investment for the franchise.
