The Milwaukee Brewers and San Diego Padres have had a rich trade history over the years. At last year’s trade deadline Josh Hader was sent to the west coast for two prospects and two big league pitchers. Earlier that season catcher Victor Caratini was sent to the Crew after their originally planned backup catcher was suspended 80 games. A few years before all of that Luis Urias and Eric Lauer were dealt to Milwaukee for Zach Davies and Trent Grisham.
With the Padres on the outside looking in of the 2023 playoff race it’s possible that these two teams make a deal again. There have been some Juan Soto rumors surfacing on the internet. He has just one and a half years of team control left, which means that it is possible, although unlikely, that San Diego will consider trading him this year.
One writer for Fansided, Tim Boyle, recently put together what a Brewers-Padres deal for Juan Soto would look like. Lets take a further look at his trade proposal.
Milwaukee Brewers-San Diego Padres trade proposal sends Juan Soto to Wisconsin (MLB Rumors).
In this trade proposal from Fansided the Brewers actually get both Juan Soto and infielder Ha-Seong Kim.
This trade proposal sacrifices a ton of Brewer draft and prospect capital for one and a half years of Juan Soto and Ha-Seong Kim. While both Soto and Kim would provide immediate offensive upgrades it would be an all-in move that would require parting ways with three top 100 prospects and promising rookie Garrett Mitchell. It is worth noting that Mitchell is currently recovering from shoulder surgery after an injury sustained earlier this season.
Given the value of these Milwaukee prospects it seems unlikely that they would offer a trade of this magnitude. It is not in the Brewers DNA to sacrifice long term success for one shot at the World Series.
