MLB Power Rankings: Another week of the regular season is complete and at this point most MLB teams have around 50 games remaining. One division race that is starting to heat up is the National League Central. Currently the Milwaukee Brewers hold a 1.5 game lead over the Chicago Cubs and Cincinnati Reds, but the latest power rankings have the Cubs in a higher position than the Brewers.
Milwaukee Brewers fall in the latest MLB power rankings, Chicago Cubs rise ahead of them.
These power rankings released on August 7 are the first big evaluations of teams one week following the passing of the trade deadline. Milwaukee ended up falling four spots to 12th overall and Chicago gaining seven spots to 11th overall.
Over the last week the Brewers went 3-4 against the Washington Nationals and Pittsburgh Pirates whereas the Cubs went 6-1 against the Cincinnati Reds and Atlanta Braves. With the Cubs sweeping the Reds in four games and taking two out of three against the Braves, who have the best record in baseball, it is easy to see why they climbed so many spots.
Another contributing factor to the Cubs rising is because they had an excellent trade deadline. They added the most impactful bat in Jeimer Candelario. This week their offense also exploded for games in which they scored 20 runs, 16 runs, and 8 runs.
The National League Central race should be a fun one to watch down the stretch. Milwaukee and Chicago play each other six times yet with three of them being the last series of the regular season.
