MLB News: At the 2022 trade deadline the Milwaukee Brewers traded infielder Mark Mathias and southpaw Antoine Kelly to the Texas Rangers for reliever Matt Bush. Less than one year later the former first overall pick in the 2004 draft has returned to Texas.
Upon being acquired by the Brewers, Matt Bush was thrust into a high-leverage role. It’s easy to see why. He has a fastball that averages in the mid to high 90s and he pairs that with a big breaking curveball. A year ago, prior to being traded to Milwaukee, he was pitching well for a Texas team that was not in the playoff hunt.
Unfortunately things have not worked out in Milwaukee as he pitched to a 4.30 ERA in 2022 and 9.58 in 2023. This led to him being designated for assignment and becoming a free agent. He has now signed back with the Texas Rangers.
MLB News: Former Milwaukee Brewers reliever Matt Bush returns to the Texas Rangers.

This year the Texas Rangers are competing for their division and a spot in the playoffs. They have already traded for Aroldis Chapman and have bullpen arms in Will Smith, Brock Burke, Jose Leclerc, Josh Sborz, Cody Bradford, and Grant Anderson.
Only time will tell if Matt Bush can recapture the confidence he had previously in Texas and where exactly he fits in on this playoff contending team.
