MLB News: Insider Jon Heyman recently went on Bleacher Report live and discussed rumors from around the league that he was hearing. As expected the top Milwaukee Brewers trade target Corbin Burnes was mentioned during this segment.
Two bold Milwaukee Brewers predictions provided by a MLB Insider (MLB News).
This off-season there have been mixed reports regarding the Brewers willingness to trade Corbin Burnes. For a while a trade seemed imminent, but as time has progressed that feeling has shifted more towards him staying put in Milwaukee. Jon Heyman again re-iterated the increased likelihood of him being retained by the Brewers during his Bleacher Report live segment.
It’s possible that Burnes recent comments regarding his hesitancy to go through with a trade and contract extension type move has scared some teams away. Another possibility is that Milwaukee’s asking price is just too high and suitors do not want to give up multiple players for one year of Burnes on the mound.
The other thing that Heyman mentioned was that he would not be surprised if the Brewers won the National League Central in 2024. He went on to mention how Milwaukee hasn’t signed a bunch of players like the St. Louis Cardinals and Cincinnati Reds have, but he believes that along with retaining Burnes their track record of success will put them in contention.
Heyman also discussed that the Brewers lost Craig Counsell to the Chicago Cubs. He went on to say that he really liked the managerial hiring in Pat Murphy. Lastly, he noted how the Cubs have not made any signings this winter despite handing out the largest managerial contract in MLB history. All of those comments were made to help support his notion of the Brewers winning the division in 2024.
Heyman’s beliefs that the Milwaukee Brewers will not trade Corbin Burnes this off-season and that they will win the division in 2024 are opposite to the feelings of some fans. There was speculation that the team would enter a mini rebuild and not compete next year, but Heyman’s bold predictions say otherwise.
