The Milwaukee Brewers dominated MLB news headlines recently after trading for Carlos Sanatan from the Pittsburgh Pirates. Milwaukee sent young shortstop Johnny Severino to Pittsburgh as part of the deal with their division rivals.
It was a move that took more than a few folks by surprise, and perhaps to a certain extent, even Santana himself. At this point, however, it is clear that the former Silver Slugger is all in on the Brewers.
MLB News: Carlos Santana Looking Forward to New Challenge
It goes without saying that Santana is no longer the superstar he once was. He’s been through his fair share of struggles over recent years, but this has not stopped the 18-year veteran from putting in the work every single day. This is the same mentality he intends to bring with him to Milwaukee:
“Baseball is hard,” said Santana, via Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “Winning is hard. When you win, do something fun so you want to win again the next day.
“… It’s a long season, ups and downs. I’m preparing to play hard every day. Sometimes it’s good, sometimes it’s bad. But I never have my head down. All the time, I’m positive and doing the most I can.”
Santa isn’t expected to take the league by storm now that he’s with the Brewers — definitely not in the way that he used to many years ago. Be that as it may, this man still has a lot of gas left in the tank. At this point in his colorful career, Sanata is intent on just keeping his head down as he looks to impact his new team in whatever way possible:
“I’m working hard on my defense, preparing every day,” Santana said. “When you’re preparing and helping the team, something positive is going to happen.”
MLB News: Carlos Santana Makes Feelings on Brewers Abundantly Clear
Santana played the first 94 games of the season with the Pirates. However, the former All-Star has now made it clear where his loyalty lies:
“I want to play here,” he said. “I can see when facing them a couple times, the team plays hard. They’re in a great position right now to fight for the playoffs. We’re in first place now. This is what I want.”
From being at the bottom of the barrel a few days ago with the Pirates, Santana now has a chance to return to the playoffs with the Brewers. You can be sure that this man isn’t taking anything for granted.
