MLB News: Arizona Diamondbacks rookie Corbin Carroll is having more than an All-Star caliber season. In many eyes he may not only run away with National League Rookie of the Year voting but he could contend for the MVP award as well. Unfortunately all of that is now secondary as we await news on a recent injury to his shoulder.
For the second time in the last week Corbin Carroll was seen having issues with his right shoulder. On Thursday, July 6 he swung and missed a pitch and immediately grabbed his shoulder. He was removed from the game. This is the same shoulder the he previously had surgery on in 2021 to repair a posterior capsular avulsion and labrum tear.
Following the game Diamondbacks manager Tony Lovullo said things checked out better than expected but more tests and imaging was going to be performed.
“Things checked out a little bit more positively than I was expecting based on what I saw. We all saw the same thing. And you know, it didn’t look good. So for the last three or four innings [of the game] all I was thinking about was ‘How’s Corbin? How’s he emotionally? How’s he physically?’ There’s going to be some imaging tomorrow morning where we’re going to find out what’s going on in there but it’s more positive than I was thinking after I saw what I saw.”
While the least of most people’s concerns, all of this certainly puts Corbin Carroll’s ability to play in Tuesday’s All-Star game in jeopardy. Let’s take a look at one player who could replace him if he is unable to participate.
MLB News: Could Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Christian Yelich replace Corbin Carroll in the All-Star game if he is unable to play?

Former 2018 MVP Christian Yelich is having a tremendous season. In fact his numbers throughout the first half of the year are nearly identical to 2018. With three games to go before the All-Star break he has a .287/.381/.459 slash with 11 home runs, 45 RBI, and 21 stolen bases.
There was a lot of displeasure among Brewers fans when they initially found out that Yelich was left off of the All-Star roster. While not under ideal circumstances the injury to Corbin Carroll could result in him returning to the mid-summer classic for the first time since 2019.
