MLB: The Milwaukee Brewers are currently leading the race for the NL Central. Sitting at 65-54, the Brewers have a 3 1/2 game lead on the Chicago Cubs and Cincinnati Reds. However, with 43 games remaining, the Central is far from won. The Crew are 7-3 in their last ten games and seem to be on an upward trend. One player who could make an immediate impact on their team? Garrett Mitchell.
Milwaukee Brewers Get Positive News Regarding A Garrett Mitchell Return (MLB)

According to Adam McCalvy of MLB.com:
Garrett Mitchell update: He has resumed hitting and will visit Milwaukee during the next homestand. As for whether he has a chance to play again this season, “it’s tight,” I’m told. That leaves a sliver of hope for Mitchell to chase.
Garrett Mitchell underwent shoulder surgery on in early May. At the time, there was little hope that Mitchell would return this season. Mitchell was called up last season and posted a .311 batting average in his first sample of MLB play. After the great start, Mitchell did regress slightly this season but still looked like a solid player. Mitchell was starting to establish himself as a staple in the lineup before the injury.
It will be interesting to see if the Brewers find a spot for him and how much he can contribute. With September rosters expanding from 26 to just 28 it is hard to imagine the Brewers finding room for a player who serves strictly as a pinch runner. However Garrett Mitchell does possess elite speed and could make a huge impact on the bases. It will be interesting to see if Milwaukee pushes to have him return in this limited role or if he just continues to focus on his rehab and getting ready for next season.
Overall, this is outstanding news for Mitchell and the Brewers. He was presumed to be out for the entire season, so the chance to get him back at all is a huge plus. The offense in centerfield hasn’t been strong all year for Milwaukee with Joey Wiemer spending most of the time there and struggling at times. Defensively, the Brewers have been able to be just fine in center with Wiemer, but Mitchell is a more ideal fit at the position.
The Brewers were 13-5 to start the year with Mitchell a key part of the team before he got injured. Immediately after he got hurt, the Brewers went 5-10.
