The Milwaukee Bucks’ playoff path has been determined. They will face the Indiana Pacers in the opening round as the No. 3 vs. No. 6 seed in the Eastern Conference.
What has yet to be determined, however, is the status of Giannis Antetokounmpo heading into Game 1 of this first-round series on Sunday. The former back-to-back MVP has missed the last three games for the Bucks due to a concerning calf strain and as of right now, his status for their playoff opener remains up in the air.
Milwaukee Bucks News: Giannis Antetokounmpo Injury Update From Doc Rivers
Bucks head coach Doc Rivers spoke to reporters before Sunday’s disheartening 113-88 loss against the Orlando Magic. When asked about his confidence level over Antetokounmpo’s availability for Sunday’s game, Rivers provided an ominous response:
“I’m confident, but I don’t know how much,” Rivers said, via Jim Owczarski of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “We just have to wait and see, you know? So, I don’t honestly know. I don’t know if that’s confidence or not. I think if I was on the first tee and I didn’t know which way the ball is going I wouldn’t be confident, so I don’t know one way or the other. I just know he’s doing all the work, we’re getting great reports. (Saturday) he did everything. So, that was positive. That’s all we can get right now.”
That’s not exactly the type of update Bucks fans were hoping for. At this point, there’s a considerable chance that Antetokounmpo will be forced to miss Game 1, and perhaps even beyond.
As Rivers implied, all they can do now is hope for the best.
