Former Milwaukee Bucks combo guard Jrue Holiday is now starting a new chapter in his career. After being shipped off by the Bucks as part of the Damian Lillard blockbuster trade, Holiday eventually landed — quite ironically — with Milwaukee’s biggest nemesis in the Eastern Conference in the Boston Celtics.
The Bucks were already expected to face a gargantuan challenge with the Celtics, but now that Holiday’s in the picture, it’s hard to deny that the job just got much harder for Giannis Antetokounmpo and Co.
Ex-Milwaukee Bucks Star Jrue Holiday Reached Out to Isaiah Thomas
One of Holiday’s biggest decisions now that with his new team is his jersey number. The two-time All-Star eventually settled with the No. 4, which is going to be the first time he’s going to use this number throughout his NBA career. Holiday wore the No. 11 shirt during his stints with the Philadelphia 76ers and the New Orleans Pelicans before switching to the No. 21 jersey with the Bucks.
Celtics reporter Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe reports that Holiday’s decision was motivated by his family:
“Jrue Holiday said he chose No. 4 because of he and his three siblings (4) and because of @isaiahthomas. Said he reached out to Isaiah before choosing the number,” Washburn reported.
Holiday reaching out to Celtics icon Isiah Thomas, who himself dawned the No. 4 jersey during his memorable time in Boston, is no surprise. This is just the type of man Holiday is. This dude is all class, which is also one of the biggest reasons why Bucks fans are going to miss him. Apart from the fact, of course, that he’s one of the best two-way guards in the NBA today.
What you can say for sure is that Holiday is going to make a significant impact in Boston this season regardless of the jersey number he’s wearing. The Celtics gave up a lot to get their hands on the five-time All-Defense guard, and ultimately, this could be a development that the Bucks might end up regretting.
