Milwaukee Bucks: Giannis Antetokounmpo Vocal on Pivotal Advantage of Playing Back-to-Back Games

Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo dominated the Chicago Bulls on Friday night. The former back-to-back MVP went off for a game-high 46 points on 16-of-22 shooting, to go along with 16 rebounds, six assists, a steal, a block, two triples, and just one turnover in 37 minutes of action.

Thanks to Giannis’ heroics, the Bucks secured their second win in two nights.

It did not look like Giannis was playing on the second night of a back-to-back set. He did, however, have a relatively light night of work on Thursday as the Bucks blew out the Charlotte Hornets, 111-99. According to the two-time MVP, this resulted in him having some extra juice against the Bulls:

“I just feel like I had a little bit of energy,” he said, via Jim Owczarski of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “The last two games I played around 20-something minutes. Obviously it was a back-to-back. I love playing on back-to-backs. I think it kind of calms me down. I’m not in a rush when I play. I was just trying to make good plays. When Dame starts the game hot and making shots, now all the attention shifts to Dame, and then you have time to facilitate, attack angles, get Brook, play in the paint, so I was able to do that. But at the end of the day just another game. I was able to be aggressive. My teammates helped me, put me in a good spot and that was it.”

While playing in back-to-backs does have it advantages, there’s no denying that it takes a toll on the players — especially when it involes travelling from one road game to the next.

The good news for Milwaukee is that they no longer play twice in two nights in the next couple of weeks. They are, however, facing an upcoming four-game road trip in sunny California.

Giannis and Co. will need to buckle up as they face the Golden State Warriors, the Los Angeles Lakers, the Los Angeles Clippers, and the Sacramento Kings. It goes without saying that this will be a pivotal stretch for the surging Bucks.
