It appears that Milwaukee Bucks icon Brandon Jennings is planning to enter the world of broadcasting now that he’s several years removed from playing professional basketball. On Tuesday night, the former No. 10 overall pick decided to take on the role of a reporter as he crashed Giannis Antetokounmpo’s post-game press availability session.
Jennings held his own behind the mic, though, and he even prompted a three-minute response from Antetokounmpo when the former asked about the latter’s 2019 MVP run.
Milwaukee Bucks Star Giannis Antetokounmpo Pays Homage to Kobe Bryant
Jennings’ question for his former teammate wasn’t one that Giannis had not faced multiple times in the past. However, Antetokounmpo was in a good mood — especially after defeating the Charlotte Hornets in an absolute blowout — which is why he provided a lengthy response when Jennings asked about Giannis’ mindset during his first MVP win during the 2018-19 season.
Naturally, Antetokounmpo had to credit the late, great Kobe Bryant for challenging him to go for the MVP title:
“I was just happy that I was in that conversation,” Antetokounmpo said, via Christopher Kuhagen of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “I came from nothing. I came into the league, they told me I should go to the G League, I was too skinny, I couldn’t handle it. I should go back to Greece.
“… Five or six years later Kobe giving me a challenge. I’m in the (MVP) conversation. I’m just going to go hard. I have nothing to lose. God blessed me with one (MVP). When you get that feeling you start craving more.”
Jennings also asked Giannis what type of advice he could give the youth about striving for success. According to the former back-to-back MVP, it’s all about keeping your eyes on the prize despite all the outside noise:
“I don’t want that to consume me,” he said about the MVPs. “It’s a lot. For every hooper out there, just play the game the right way. This new generation they go on social media and see all this stuff how people talk about them. Good or bad, that’s not reality.
“When I go drop my kids off at school they don’t tell me (about my free throws). If I go on social media, they make me feel like I’m trash, good or bad. When they talk good about you, you’re not that good; when they talk bad about you, you’re not that bad. If you stay on course, good things are going to happen.”
True enough, good things have happened to Giannis in what has been a decorated NBA career thus far.
