Green Bay Packers training camp is finally here! Today marked the first practice of the 2024 season. It was a quick practice from the Green and Gold without much team sessions. Of course, the headline today was quarterback Jordan Love not participating in practice. Love and his team told the Packers over the weekend he would not practice until a new deal was reached. However, Love was present and a part of team meetings. It only seems like a matter of time. With a new season under way, here are three of my headlines entering training camp and the 2024 season!
Green Bay Packers Training Camp Headlines: Who Will Be Starting at Corner Opposite Jaire Alexander?

I think the biggest position battle in training camp will be the second starting cornerback position. It will come down to former first round pick Eric Stokes and second year player Carrington Valentine.
Stokes, after a solid rookie year, has struggled with injuries the last few seasons. The Green Bay Packers did not pick up his fifth year option. This means he will be an unrestricted free agent after this season. However, Brain Gutekunst mentioned today not picking up the option had to do with injuries and not play. I think Stokes wins the job out of training camp, but I am not sure how long he will keep it.
For a seventh round rookie, I thought Carrington Valentine was pretty solid. Sure he had his rookie moments, but he was thrown into the ring of fire and played pretty well. It will be interesting to see what second year jump he makes. Valentine does not lack confidence and should make this a battle all training camp.
How Many Quarterbacks Do the Green Bay Packers Keep?

It’s a good problem to have, but the Green Bay Packers might have to keep three quarterbacks on the active roster. Ideally, you don’t want to do that because it takes away a roster spot, especially an active roster spot potentially, Green Bay really likes rookie Michael Pratt. Many saw him as an early day three pick, but fell to the seventh round. If the Packers didn’t see something in him. they wouldn’t have taken the Tulane legend.
At the same time, it’s interesting why the Green Bay Packers took Pratt when they used a fifth round pick on Sean Clifford last year. Typically, a fifth round pick will get around two years before they would be cut.
I think Green Bay keeps three quarterbacks, but Clifford wins the backup job. With Jordan Love not practicing right now, we will get some early looks at Clifford and Pratt.
How Many Offensive Linemen Are Kept?

It seems like a silly headline, but Green Bay has multiple linemen in their third and fourth years that could be cut. They did draft three offensive linemen including first round pick Jordan Morgan. Jacob Monk was selected in the fifth round while Travis Glover was taken in the sixth round.
Players like Royce Newman, Caleb Jones, and Luke Tenuta are playing for their jobs in my opinion. I can’t see the Packers cutting Monk or Glover if they used draft capital, something important to the organization, on those players. You have to think they are safe. Green Bay could use their assumed five starters and the three rookies or they keep one more veteran like Andre Dillard. I will be intrigued by this when cuts begin to happen.
