Simply put, Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo is unlike any other player we’ve seen in the past. This is exactly why even Giannis himself struggled to find a comparison to himself in terms of the similarities of his game to a past player.
According to Antetokounmpo, there’s actually no player he emulates his game after.
Milwaukee Bucks Star Giannis Antetokounmpo on Emulating Another Player
The former back-to-back MVP was asked this very question In a recent interview. He got brutally honest in his response:
“Nobody,” he responded. “But I’m not saying that to be arrogant. I haven’t seen anybody that, in the past, kinda move like me or anything. It’s so hard — there’s nobody to immitate. You see guys my size, I move differently.”
He’s not lying. Any basketball expert out there would probably be hard-pressed to find a past player who has a similar game to Antetokounmpo.
Giannis did mention a couple of names that he could compare his game to. One of the players that he referenced was Hall of Fame big man Hakeem Olajuwon:
“Hakeem was one of those guys that could move,” Giannis said. “Defense and offense, he played the post, he was very agile.”
Antetokounmpo is obviously a huge fan of Olajuwon, and the fact that he worked out with the Houston Rockets icon this past summer is a testament to the same. Hakeem is one of the greatest post players of all time, and being the student of the game that he is, Giannis wants to learn whatever he can from Olajuwon to try and incorporate it into his own elite arsenal.
Giannis Antetokounmpo's gameday routine: Pasta. Chicken. 3-hour nap.
