There were more than a few names that were linked to the Milwaukee Bucks during NBA free agency. One of them was veteran shooting guard Eric Gordon, who eventually landed with the Phoenix Suns on a two-year, $6 million contract.
Gordon is the type of floor-spacer who would have probably been a great fit alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard, among others, but in the end, it just wasn’t to be.
Eric Gordon Reveals He Almost Joined Milwaukee Bucks
In a recent interview with Mark Medina of Sportskeeda, Gordon admitted that a few other teams were on the radar before he decided to sign with Phoenix. Apart from his former team, the Houston Rockets, as well as the Golden State Warriors, Gordon revealed that the Bucks were also in the mix:
“Yeah. Houston and the Warriors were definitely an option. Milwaukee was definitely an option,” Gordon said. “But I felt Phoenix was onto something special. It was a tough decision, but I really think we have everything going on here from ownership, to coaches and to players. It’s hard to beat.”
You can’t really blame Gordon for picking the Suns. There’s a lot of excitement surrounding Kevin Durant and Devin Booker in what will be their first full season together. They also added Bradley Beal this summer, making them one of the most fearsome teams out there this coming campaign.
Eric Gordon Confident Suns Can Go All the Way
Gordon has not won an NBA championship in his 15-year NBA career. Throughout that span, he’s played for no less than four different teams, with Phoenix being his fifth squad. He’s never won a chip, though, and the 34-year-old is hoping that this all changes in 2023-24:
“I really feel like we’re onto something special in Phoenix. I don’t look at this as a short-term thing. I really think we have a really good shot this season [at winning the NBA title] and for years to come. With me being here, I felt like we would be pretty good because I think I would fit in and gel with these guys really well.”
Despite being touted as one of the favorites to win it all this season, Gordon knows that it’s not going to be a walk in the park for Phoenix. However, he is also adamant that once they figure things out, the Suns are going to be a problem in the NBA:
“The talent is going to be there. We have to stay as healthy as we can. That’s No. 1. And no. 2? Once we get the chemistry down, it’s going to be really hard to stop us. In the playoffs, it’s going to be really hard to beat us four times.”
