During the first game of a three-game series against the New York Yankees, the Milwaukee Brewers handled their business in an 11-inning 7-6 win. In game two of this series, the Yankees came back with vengeance following their tough loss pouring on 15 runs during a 15-3 onslaught victory. One final game today will determine which of these two division leaders will win this vital series.
With the win, New York is tied with the Baltimore Orioles for first place in the AL East division with an 18-10 record. For Milwaukee, the loss puts them at 17-9. They sit a half-game above the Chicago Cubs for first place in the NL Central division.
Milwaukee Brewers Tantalizing 15-3 Loss to the Yankees
Six batters into the first inning, Yankees left fielder Alex Verdugo smashed a three-run home run to right-center field, giving New York a solid early lead. During the bottom of the first inning, Brewers first baseman Rhys Hoskins hit his sixth home run of the year, a solo shot to left-center field. A few innings later during the top of the third inning, Yankees second baseman Gleyber Torres crushed a sharp line drive to center field, which resulted in a three-run double putting New York ahead now 6-1.
The Yankees Continue to Dominate
Yankees third baseman Oswaldo Cabrera hit an RBI single to right field in the top of the fifth inning to extend his team’s lead. An inning later, Yankees center fielder Aaron Judge thrashed a two-run home run, his fifth of the year to center field putting New York up 9-1. Four batters later, Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo pummeled a two-run homer to right field to put the Yankees up ten runs.
New York Scores Four Runs in the Ninth to Cap Off Their Big Day At the Plate
The Yankees onslaught would not stop as Alex Verudo brought home a Yankee run off a sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth. Then, Yankees designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton crushed a three-run home run to center field, giving New York a 15-1 lead. Both Gary Sanchez, and Joey Ortiz both hit RBI doubles for the Brewers, but those two runs would not be enough to come back from the devastating charge the Yankees came out with last night. During this loss, the Milwaukee Brewers only recorded five hits.
Top Performances from This 15-3 Matchup
New York’s starting pitcher Carlos Rodón pitched six innings, allowing one run on two hits, and a walk while striking out eight batters. Alex Verdugo went three for five with four RBIs in the win. Also, Gleyber Torres went three for six with three RBIs, while Giancarlo Stanton went two for five with three RBIs.
Brewers starting pitcher Joe Ross pitched five innings allowing six runs on eight hits, and three walks while striking out five batters during the loss. Milwaukee reliever Thyago Vieira pitched one inning allowing four runs on four hits, and a walk. Brewers third baseman Joey Ortiz was the only Milwaukee batter with multiple hits during this loss. Ortiz went two for four at the plate with an RBI.
