The Milwaukee Bucks got absolutely destroyed by the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday night in what turned out to be an embarrassing 129-94 loss. The Kings deserve a lot of credit for pouring it on all over the Bucks, but at the same time, there’s no denying that Milwaukee needs to take a lot of the blame for this truly disappointing result.
If you ask head coach Doc Rivers, however, there is no doubt in his mind that there’s only one person that needs to be held responsible for Thursday’s defeat.
Milwaukee Bucks Head Coach Doc Rivers Takes Full Accountability
According to Rivers, the pitchforks should be aimed at his direction. He admitted after the game that he did a poor job in getting his team ready for what was the final game of a demanding four-game road stand:
“So, we deserved it tonight. My fault. I didn’t get them prepared the way they should mentally,” Rivers said, via Jim Owczarski of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “I thought our shootaround, guys talking about planes and leaving. As a staff we talked about it after shootaround. It was like, if our focus is not better than this morning, it’s going to be a long day and it was a long day. So, that’s on us.”
As Rivers said, the entire team was already thinking about heading back home to Milwaukee even before the game started. This led to a lack of focus on the task at hand, which in the NBA, can be considered a mortal sin.
The Kings made the Bucks pay for not having their heads in the game, and it absolutely showed. Milwaukee just didn’t have any fight left as Sacramento dominated them for pretty much the entire 48 minutes.
The good news for the Bucks is they now finally get to head back home. It’s a quick turnaround for them, though, with a matchup against a Joel Embiid-less Philadelphia 76ers side slated for Thursday night.
