The NBA trade deadline is fast approaching, and the Milwaukee Bucks haven’t made a move just yet. But if this proposed trade comes true, expect the team to become favorites in the postseason by getting Dejounte Murray from the Atlanta Hawks.
At this point in time, the Bucks need to improve the roster in whatever way the front office can. After trading Jrue Holiday away for Damian Lillard in the offseason, the team’s defense plummeted to 19th place from last season’s fourth-ranked in the entire league.
And while the offense has never been a problem for the duo of Lillard and Giannis Antetokounmpo, there is a need to improve on the defensive end of the court. As evidenced by a 1-3 record after Doc Rivers’ coaching debut, the Bucks are clearly struggling in that area.
With the recent firing of Adrian Griffin, the pressure of winning under Rivers, and potential injuries to Lillard and Antetokounmpo, the front office must act fast to save Milwaukee’s season.
Milwaukee Bucks Get Bobby Portis and Other Assets for Dejounte Murray in a Proposed Trade
One sure way to vastly improve the Bucks’ chances in the postseason is by acquiring Dejounte Murray from the Hawks. An article by Eric Nehm for The Athletic dives into the details of this proposed trade.
“On Jan. 19, TNT’s Chris Haynes reported that the Bucks “registered interest” in Murray. The Athletic can confirm that interest, but that initial call was nothing more than exploratory on the Hawks’ part, as they tried to figure out which teams around the league might have interest in Murray,” Nehm wrote.
Nehm added that for Milwaukee to get Murray, a possible package of Bobby Portis, Pat Connaughton, MarJon Beauchamp, Portland’s 2024 second-round pick, and Milwaukee’s 2027 second-round pick has to be sent to the Hawks.
“However, without including one of the top four players on the roster, it seems quite difficult for the Bucks to outbid the Lakers, as well as other teams that could get involved, and have enough assets to push into a deal to get it done,” Nehm added.
Unfortunately, the Los Angeles Lakers’ offer for Murray is better than any package Milwaukee can muster. In any case, fans will have to wait and see what the Bucks can do to get better before the NBA trade deadline expires.
