The dust has now settled on Adrian Griffin’s unexpected Milwaukee Bucks exit. At the moment, the Doc Rivers regime is in full swing, with the tenured coach losing his third out of four games on Sunday night against the Utah Jazz.
With so much focus on Rivers and his tenure, it probably won’t be long before Griffin becomes an afterthought for Bucks fans everywhere.
Milwaukee Bucks Star Damian Lillards’ Comments on Adrian Griffin
Everyone was taken by surprise when the Bucks announced Griffin’s firing. Even Damian Lillard himself admitted that he did not see all this coming.
However, now that we all have the benefit of hindsight, it has become clear that this decision did not come out of the blue. The front office thought long and hard about this move, and ultimately, they deemed that it would be in the team’s best decision to move on from the rookie coach.
As a matter of fact, while he did say that he was “surprised” by the decision, even Lillard must have had an idea that the end was near for Coach Griff. In an interview days before the Bucks gave Griffin the axe, Lillard spoke on the massive demands that are all part of Griffin’s job description:
“He didn’t take an easy job. It’s one with pressure and expectations and criticisms. It comes with a lot of weight,” Lillard said, via Vincent Goodwill of Yahoo Sports. “You gotta be able to handle it.”
It’s not as if Lillard knew that Griffin was going to get fired, but he was well aware of what the job entailed. At the end of the day, Coach Griff just wasn’t able to “handle” all the pressure.
The Bucks are now hoping that it’s an entirely different case for Doc Rivers.
