For as long as anyone can remember, the Portland Trail Blazers have become synonymous with Damian Lillard. This season, though, the All-Star point guard now plays for the Milwaukee Bucks after a trade request sent him to the Eastern Conference team.
Before that happened, Lillard spent 11 seasons playing for the Trail Blazers as its most important player. During that time, the former Portland star averaged 25.2 points on 43 percent shooting from the field, 4.2 rebounds, and 6.7 assists per contest.
As seen in those stats, Lillard has been an elite shot creator and playmaker all throughout his stint in Portland. But after failing to construct a championship roster around him, the point guard requested a trade that sent him to the Bucks.
Lillard’s situation now is way different and better than what it was in Portland. For one, his partnership with Giannis Antetokounmpo elevates the Bucks to contention. Second, Doc Rivers’ recent hiring after the front office sacked Adrian Griffin has given the team a solid voice from the coaching staff, one capable of making the most out of Lillard’s talent.
Chauncey Billups Reveals Thoughts About Upcoming Game Against Damian Lillard and the Milwaukee Bucks
Speaking of coaches, Portland Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups shares his true feelings about Damian returning to the place he had played for so long in a different uniform.
According to Brenna Greene of Koin.com:
“I’m pretty sure he’s had this game circled on his calendar since the trade. I’m sure everybody in the state has too. It’ll be a lot of fun…I’m expecting the building to be crazy and everyone show Dame a lot of love as he deserves,” Billups said.
Based from what Billups said, it looks like there’s going to be a lot of love for the former Trail Blazers star. Rightfully so, because Lillard has given his all during his time with the team, even if they weren’t able to surround him with sufficient talent to reach the NBA Finals.
With the Bucks facing Lillard’s previous team soon, there’ll be a lot of things to look forward to from this matchup. Expect Lillard and company to rise up to the challenge when this game happens.
