Doc Rivers will be coaching his first game for the Milwaukee Bucks on Monday night against none other than the defending champions, the Denver Nuggets. These two teams battle it out at the Ball Arena too, giving the home-court advantage to Nikola Jokic and Co.
Needless to say, it’s going to be an extrmeely tough first game out for Milwaukee’s new man at the helm.
Milwaukee Bucks Coach Doc Rivers Eyeing Championship
There’s no better way for the Bucks to stake their claim to the title than by taking down the defending champs. It’s not going to be an easy task, but there’s no denying that this is an excellent opportunity for them to come out with a strong statement about their championship credentials this season.
For his part, Doc Rivers isn’t shying away from all the champsionship talk. He is well aware of the fact that the Bucks front office brought him in with thie sole objective in mind, and the 62-year-old is banking on his own championship experience to help him in his new job:
“Winning it all, it’s like having a blood transfusion with everybody in the organization, and once you get that in you, you want another one, ” Rivers said, via Spectrum News 1. “And that’s my pursuit. I don’t know if there’s anything to prove there. It’s just something that I want to do. Listen, Giannis, that’s what he wants to do. Khris Middleton and Lopez — just because they’ve won one doesn’t mean they don’t want to win another. And Dame wants to win one.
“Yeah, I’ve got a hungry group.”
You can say that again. When the Bucks traded for Damian Lillard this offseason, it was clear that they were embracing the championshup or bust mentality. Adrian Griffin proved to be incapable of helping the team achieve this goal so the front office made the tough decision to let him go.
With Rivers now at the helm, there’s even more pressure on the entire organization to reach its objectives this season. It’s a long road ahead but it all starts on Monday night.
