There’s no denying that Jrue Holiday still holds a special place in the hearts and minds of his former Milwaukee Bucks teammates. This is despite the fact that Holiday will come in on Thursday night with the Boston Celtics to try and do whatever he can to beat his former team at the Fiserv Forum.
Bucks veteran Bobby Portis recently spoke out about his relationship with the two-time All-Star, whom he will get to battle on the court in Thursday’s marquee matchup.
Milwaukee Bucks Vet Bobby Portis Sings Jrue Holiday’s Praises
Portis has nothing but love for Holiday, who left the team this summer as part of the Damian Lillard blockbuster trade. Even though they are now on opposing teams, Portis claims that his personal relationship with his buddy will never change:
“That’s our brother,” Portis said. “We played with him (for) three years, here with the Bucks for three years. The sacrifices he gave not only to the basketball court but to the city is second to none. He’s a great guy, family man — I want to be like Jrue Holiday. Great family, great guy. For all the right reasons. NBA champion. Just a great overall person.”
Portis then went on to share how he considers Holiday to be a good friend — someone who he will have a special connection with for the rest of their lives:
“Outside the basketball court, my brother for life,” Portis said. “Our names are forever engraved forever together. (He’s) someone who I can lean on for advice, someone I can lean on just to talk to. Great guy, even better person.”
Being the competitor that he is, however, Portis did note that he will be setting the friendship aside once the game tips off on Thursday.
“Kind of funny to see him on the other side wearing a different shade of green, but still my guy,” Portis continued. “But when the ball goes up, all that it goes out the way. It’s time to get a dub.”
