The Brooklyn Nets had no business hanging around with the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday night. The fact that they were missing the services of Spencer Dinwiddie, Cameron Johnson, Ben Simmons, Nic Claxton, Lonnie Walker IV, and Dorian Finney-Smith meant that they were extremely shorthanded against the mighty Bucks.
Moreover, Brooklyn was coming off a hard-fought road victory against the Detroit Pistons the night before.
Needless to say, the Nets were at a real disadvantage against the Bucks entering Wednesday’s showdown.
Milwaukee Bucks Coach Hails Nets’ Effort
Despite having the odds stacked against them, the Nets still stood their ground against the Bucks. Milwaukee needed a fourth-quarter surge to finally fend off a formidable challenge from their opponents — one that prompted some high praise from Bucks head coach Adrian Griffin:
“They knew they were kind of undermanned but I think [Nets coach Jacque Vaughn is] doing a phenomenal job there,” Griffin said, via Jake Rogers of NBA Analysis. “But we took care of business and again, games like this, you’ve just got to find a way to win and get ready for Cleveland.”
As always, a win is a win for the Bucks. They now turn their attention to the Cleveland Cavaliers ahead of their game at the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse on Friday night.
Jacque Vaughn Praises Nets’ Effort
Nets coach Jacque Vaughn also had to sing his team’s praises for their effort against Milwaukee. Vaughn fielded his second unit for the majority of Wednesday’s contest but for the most part, the undermanned Nets gave the Bucks are real run for their money.
“I have too much respect for the dudes that suit up and put their body on the line and the competition level to even mention the word exhibition,” Vaughn said. “Any guy could have ended their career tonight by one play and so I treat it as such. It is an honor, it is, I don’t know, a sense of gratitude that you do this for a living and you never, ever underestimate that. If you do, you’ll pay for it.”
