When the Milwaukee Brewers traded second baseman Kolten Wong to the Seattle Mariners for Jesse Winker and Abraham Toro, they knew that they were getting an outfielder/designated hitter that need some recovery time. Winker needed neck and knee surgeries this offseason, procedures that he said have helped him feel better than he has in years. As one might expect, with such surgeries, Winker has had to some rehab work with the Brewers before taking part in full Spring Training activities. However, yesterday (February 25), Milwaukee got some good news about their new player.
Milwaukee Brewers Manager Craig Counsell Gives an Update on Jesse Winker
According to the “Injuries and Roster Moves” page on the Brewers’ website, Craig Counsell had this to say about Winker:
“I’d characterize him as, the original schedule we put forth — he’s ahead of it. He’s going to be ahead of our original schedule. In Spring Training, that’s an accomplishment [because] we’re going to be conservative. I think you’ll see him in the field by the end of spring. Absolutely. That’s 100 percent his goal.”
When asked about an exact date that fans can expect to see him on the field, Winker responded:
“I don’t like to give a day because if it’s sooner, great, if it’s a little bit later, great. It’s going very well. I have to still build up some volume on the hitting side and on the outfield side, but I should be get into a game DHing here shortly.”
