A pair of former Milwaukee Brewers players were in the headlines on Tuesday June 13, 2023 as transaction news surrounding them was announced.
Major news surrounding two former Milwaukee Brewers players.
Before Memorial Day the Brewers designated former home run champion Luke Voit for assignment. He cleared waivers and was a free agent up until Tuesday. It was then announced that he has signed a minor league deal with the New York Mets.
This signing for the Mets is a depth move. They recently placed Pete Alonso on the injured list after being hit by a pitch in the wrist, so it’s been Mark Canha and Mark Vientos covering first base. Former Brewer Daniel Vogelbach is on the team but is best utilized as a designated hitter.
The second former Milwaukee player in the news was outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. He spent one season as a Brewer, was traded back to his former team in the Boston Red Sox during the Hunter Renfroe deal, had a brief stint with the Toronto Blue Jays in 2022, and signed with the Kansas City Royals prior to the start of the 2023 season. His tenure with the Royals is now over as he was designated for assignment.
Leading up to this transaction he had just a .133 batting average and .398 OPS. It has been a rough past two offensive seasons for the left-handed swinger. At this point he may strictly be a defensive replacement for any major league team.
