Milwaukee Brewers bench coach Pat Murphy recently joined 97.3 The Game to discuss several topics. One discussion revolved around Craig Counsell becoming a free agent as a manager. His perspective on the situation is interesting, but he also strongly re-iterated the fact that Craig Counsell loves Milwaukee.
Pat Murphy shares his perspective on current Milwaukee Brewers manager Craig Counsell becoming a free agent.
The first part of Pat Murphy’s response revolves around Craig Counsell doing what is best for him and listening to what other teams have to say. He does not reveal if this process has started already, but earlier this offseason a rumor surfaced indicating that Craig Counsell is under contract until October 31. If that is true until then other teams need permission to talk with him.
When people become free agents they become free agents. I’m happy for Craig (Counsell) in a huge way. He’s got a chance right now to look at his situation and listen to what other teams have to say and I think that’s what you do.
Pat Murphy finishes his discussion regarding Craig Counsell by noting that he loves Milwaukee and the front office. This is no surprise because Craig Counsell grew up in the area, has a family established in Wisconsin, and he previously played for the organization.
He loves the Brewers, he loves the ownership, and he loves the front office. He’s taking a little time to look at it and see what’s best. But make no mistake.. he loves the Milwaukee Brewers, he loves Milwaukee, he loves the fans, and that’s no B.S.
Other topics discussed by Pat Murphy include the Brewers struggles in the postseason, the relevance of being 1-9 in their last 10 playoff games, why home runs matter more in October, and differences between the regular season and postseason. The full interview is available below.
