Pat Murphy opens up on his relationship with Craig Counsell and the anticipated energy between future Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago Cubs match ups.
The relationship and friendship between Pat Murphy and Craig Counsell goes way back. Murphy indicates that he has known Counsell since he was 17 years old. At Notre Dame University Murphy was Counsell’s coach and the two were affiliated in the Brewers organization since the Murphy became the bench coach at the end of the 2015 season.
Their relationship is strong enough that Pat Murphy is adamant that even if the two were involved in a brawl on the field that they would still be friends. On Foul Territory TV he did not reveal any ill will towards Counsell’s decision to leave Milwaukee, but he did acknowledge that it can be interpreted in several different ways with various levels of complexity.
“I think what Couns (Craig Counsell) did can be viewed in many different ways. I’ve been close with this guy since he was 17 years old… We will always be close. We could fight and Counsell could jump on my back in a brawl…and we would still be (close)… and that would be his best strategy.”
“Will there be extra extra juice (for future Brewers and Cubs match ups)?. It’s just going to be so exposed that I think the people and the fans will be very aware of it.”
