Milwaukee Brewers left-handed pitcher Eric Lauer began the season as a member of the starting rotation. He had been with the team since a trade during the 2019-2020 offseason and he posted incredible 2021 and 2022 campaigns.
When he broke out in 2021 the southpaw started 20 games for Milwaukee and had a 3.19 ERA. He was one of the best pitchers in all of baseball during the second half of that season. His success continued into 2022 as he had a 3.69 ERA over 29 starts.
Unfortunately 2023 has not been kind to him. Through eight big league starts and nine appearances he had a 5.48 ERA and had surrendered 13 home runs. He had some injuries creep up on him and eventually was placed on the injured list at the end of May.
According to the transaction log on his MLB web page, on June 14 he was activated by the Brewers and optioned to Triple-A. A week later the Nashville Sounds placed him on the inactive list. No formal word was given as to why, but now six weeks later he has returned to game action.
After an unexpected absence Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Eric Lauer has returned to game action.
On August 1 the Nashville Sound activated Eric Lauer. He made his first appearance that same day. His last game played before his undisclosed absence came on June 11.
In his first outing back with the Sounds Lauer pitched two innings, gave up two hits, and was tagged with one earned run. If he is able to return to form and earn his way back onto the Brewers roster this year that could be a big benefit for them during the final few months of the season.
