The Milwaukee Brewers and New York Yankees have agreed to a trade that is sending big league talent to the Brew Crew and prospects to the Bronx. Milwaukee is receiving outfielder/first baseman Jake Bauers whereas New York gets outfielders Jace Avina and Brian Sanchez.
Milwaukee Brewers-New York Yankees trade: Jake Bauers heads to the Brew Crew in exchange for Jace Avina and Brian Sanchez.
In this deal Milwaukee parted ways with their 29th ranked prospect Jace Avina. Brian Sanchez was not a member of their top 30 prospect list. This is the third top 30 prospect that the Brewers have parted ways with this week as Robert Moore and Hendry Mendez were sent to the Philadelphia Phillies earlier.
Coming to Milwaukee is 28 year old left-handed thrower and hitter Jake Bauers. He does not excel defensively, but he has the ability to play first base as well as the outfield. At the plate he has some pop in his bat, draws a good number of walks, but hits for a low batting average.
Unlike Rowdy Tellez, who is entering his final year of arbitration and is projected to make over $5.00 MM in 2024, Jake Bauers is just entering his first year of arbitration. He will be under the Brewers control until the conclusion of the 2026 season. One interesting thing to know is that he is out of minor league options.
After the trade was announced New York Baseball Columnist Joel Sherman described the trade as Milwaukee getting a cheaper clone of Rowdy Tellez. He then shared Jake Bauers 2023 slash line (.202/.279/.413 with 12 home runs/272 PAs) and Rowdy Tellez’s (.215/.291/.378 with 13 home runs/351 PAs).
This trade all but signals Milwaukee’s intentions for Rowdy Tellez. The non-tender deadline is at 7:00 p.m. tonight, so unless a trade elsewhere occurs it is safe to say that Rowdy Tellez will not be given a contract for the 2024 season.

Idk lets see what he can do
Not quite a clone. Jake would have had 16 HRs with equal plate appearances.
He’s also not a fat a$$ like Tellez and can play the OF (and while the D stats might say they are about equal, I have to imagine he’s a better athlete and will get to more balls).
