The Milwaukee Brewers selected two college bats early on in the 2023 MLB draft. Third baseman Brock Wilken was their first round section and infielder Mike Boeve was their second round pick. Wilken, a Wake Forest product, is known for his power. Boeve, a Nebraska-Omaha alumni, is known for his ability to make contact.
During Boeve’s final collegiate season he accumulated 211 plate appearances and struck out just nine times. His slash line was a ridiculous .401/.512/.563 with a 1.075 OPS, four home runs, and 32 RBI. His player profile is similar to Tyler Black, with the exception of not having the elite speed that Black possesses.
One area where Boeve projects to be below average is power. In a publication by Dan Zielinski, founder of the Baseball Prospect Journal, Boeve discussed his approach to add more power to his game.
What is Milwaukee Brewers second round pick Mike Boeves’ approach to add power to his game?

Having hit just 13 home runs over three collegiate seasons, here is what Mike Boeve indicated his approach to adding power will be.
“There are things I am working on. Building off the approach and picking my spots. Then there are some swing mechanic things I can do.
“Not being so quad-dominant is one thing I am working on. I have worked on adding a little bit of a hip coil. Using more of my top hand more. Being a left-handed hitter and right-handed dominant, my right hand takes over at times, which is good because it allows me to spray the ball to all fields. But I want to lock in that top hand more. Maybe that can get me some more power, especially to the pull side.”
In his first seven career Arizona Complex League (ACL) games, Mike Boeve has gone deep twice. This is a very small sample size in which he is facing competition that is much younger/inexperienced then him, but hopefully his power numbers and potential continue to trend in an upward trajectory.
