The Milwaukee Brewers have a deal for former San Francisco Giants and Kansas City Royals hurler Jakob Junis, according to ESPN’s Kiley McDaniel.
Right hander Jakob Junis has a deal with the Brewers pending physical, per source. He’s being signed as a starting pitcher after having served as both starter and reliever for the Giants over the last two seasons.’
Milwaukee Brewers Adding New Arm in Wake of Corbin Burnes Trade
The deal is not yet official but the expectation is that Junis will indeed bring his talents to the Milwaukee Brewers, who just recently split ways with former ace and ex-Cy Young Award winner in the National League, Corbin Burnes. According to Mark Feisand (h/t Brent Maguire) of MLB.com, the said contract is for a year and priced at $7 million.
Junis spent the last two seasons in the majors with the Giants. Before that, he pitched for the Kansas City Royals during his first five years in the majors. So far in his MLB career, Junis, who turned 31 years old last September, has a 38-45 record to go with a 4.64 ERA and 1.336 WHIP across 713.1 innings pitched and 168 appearances with 110 starts).
In 2023, Junis went 4-3 with a 3.87 ERA and 109 ERA+ in 40 games (four starts) with San Francisco.
While he was used by the Giants as both a starter and a reliever, he is projected to be a middle-of-the-rotation starter — also via Maguire — for the Brewers, who won the NL Central Division crown in 2023.
“Junis will join a rotation that’s headlined by Freddy Peralta and veteran starter Wade Miley. Junis figures to slot somewhere in the middle of the rotation around other potential starters like Colin Rea, Joe Ross and DL Hall — the latter who was acquired in the Burnes trade.”
