The uneven career of Milwaukee Brewers First Baseman Keston Hiura continues. Hiura reportedly hasn’t been in the lineup for Triple A-Nashville due to right elbow discomfort, and the team is running tests to figure out the severity of the injury. His status for the rest of the season is TBD, according to Adam McCalvy of MLB.com
This is the latest setback for the Milwaukee Brewers and Hiura, as he missed a few weeks back in late May with a PCL injury.
It’s a shame because Hiura was having one of his best years in Triple-A. In 85 games, Hiura was batting .308, 23 home runs, 77 RBIs in 367 plate appearances.
What is Keston Hiura’s future with the Milwaukee Brewers?
Despite dozens of articles clamoring for the Milwaukee Brewers to call up Keston Hiura, the team did not take the bait despite their offense being in the lower half of the league for most of the season.
Hiura hasn’t shown to consistently hit at the Major League level, which makes his situation frustrating because he hits like Ted Williams in the minors and the majors. He’s the guy who you move in for because he’s an automatic out.
Let’s not forget the Milwaukee Brewers designated Hiura for assignment before the season. The team knew what they had in him. Hiura has shown to be a player who’s struggled against major league pitching, not a good defender. Understandably, Hiura wouldn’t have the production as he did in 2019, but he hasn’t shown any improvement to warrant calling him up.
This latest injury probably signals the end of Hiura’s career for the Brewers. The team has young talent on the team and coming up through the farm system. There’s no longer a need for Keston Hiura on the roster. He doesn’t provide anything of value at the Major League level, and this hope that he will hit above the Major League average won’t happen.
It’s terrible news for the Milwaukee Brewers and Keston Hiura because he did this last week
