Milwaukee Brewers Jesse Winker has spent a few stints on the injured list this season with the most recent injury designation being back spasms. He has been on the IL since July 26, but now is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers starting next week.
Jesse Winker is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (Milwaukee Brewers News).
Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel announced this on Twitter. He indicated that Jesse Winker will join the Timber Rattlers in Cedar Rapids. That series is scheduled to begin Tuesday, August 15.
Prior to being placed on the IL Jesse Winker was struggling mightily and was moved down on the Brewers depth chart. Unless a situation arises it is likely that Milwaukee will have him spend as much time as possible on rehab assignment. According to the MiLB website the maximum amount of time any non-pitcher can spend rehabing back from an injury is 20 days.
All that being said it could be that Winker does not return to the Brewers until September. It will be interesting to see what happens once he is ready to return and how Milwaukee utilizes him. Another possibility is that they designate him for assignment at the end of his rehab stint. Follow me on Twitter @tylerkoerth. Follow us @WiSportsHeroics for more great content.
