During the 2022-2023 off-season the Milwaukee Brewers appointed Matt Arnold as their new GM after David Stearns surprisingly stepped down on his own accord citing burnout as the primary reason. The former Harvard grad joined the Brew Crew in 2015 and he quickly rebuilt the team. Under his wing Milwaukee was in playoff contention late into the season every year since 2017, won the National League Central in 2018 and 2021, and made four consecutive trips to the post season.
His quick and effective work with the Brewers caught the eye of several around the league. He’s currently in an advisory role with Milwaukee and is under contract until the conclusion of the 2023 season, but for years teams have been rumored to be pursuing him.
The New York Mets and Houston Astros have been the two most frequent teams linked to pursing David Stearns. Now Jon Heyman has reported that an American League East team will pursue Stearns and give him a top job if they falter.
Which American League East team is interested in former Milwaukee Brewers GM David Stearns?

Per Jon Heyman, the Boston Red Sox will pursue David Stearns if they falter this year. The Red Sox had an interesting offseason, they have lost a few superstars over the years, and are currently hanging around in the toughest division in baseball with a 26-24 record (fourth place in the AL East).
Lots of things have not gone Boston’s way since their 2018 World Series win and fans are not happy with the current rebuild of the roster. David Stearns has a proven track record of turning organizations around quickly and putting them into contention.
Should the Red Sox falter and pursue David Stearns once his contract expires they will likely be competing against several other organizations. Any team that has question marks about their GM will at least inquire about his potential interest in their ball club.
