The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Washington Nationals on Friday night by a score of 5-3. All five of their runs came courtesy of three separate home runs with William Contreras belting a three run game tying blast and Carlos Santana hitting two solo shots.
Home runs from William Contreras and Carlos Santana propel the Milwaukee Brewers to victory over the Washington Nationals.
Despite winning this game, the Brewers found themselves down three runs before they even got to swing the bat. Starting pitcher Wade Miley surrendered a solo home run off the foul pole and gave up three doubles in the first inning to make it 3-0 in the blink of an eye. Fortunately those were the only runs that the Nationals scored all game.
It took the Brewers offense a while to get going but they ended up doing a lot of damage in the fifth inning. Walks from Rowdy Tellez and Christian Yelich gave William Contreras an opportunity to get the team on the board. He wasted no time by smashing a game tying three run home run off the first pitch he saw. His 456 blast is the longest Brewers home run of the season.
One batter after William Contreras’ game tying three run home run Carlos Santana gave Milwaukee the lead with a solo home run. He then added another insurance run via a second long ball in the eighth inning. Relievers Trevor MeGill, Abner Uribe, and Devin Williams all had scoreless outings and secured the victory.
Game two of the Brewers and Nationals will be a night game that starts at 6:10 PM on Saturday. Pitching wise Corbin Burnes is set to square off against Trevor Williams.
